The horse's two most productive distances fall in the sweet spot between seven furlongs and a mile, where it has won 2 of 3 races (a 67 per cent rate). Add slightly soft ground to that equation and something clicks: Lattam has won 2 of 5 races on those conditions, a 40 per cent return that stands out sharply against its overall record. The problem is that these ideal circumstances don't arrive often enough. Last summer, when both factors aligned—soft ground at Newcastle on 29 June 2023—Lattam delivered a Class 2 victory. That remains its last and best win, now nearly four decades of months in the past.

Julie Camacho's Norton yard has been prolific this season with 46 winners, yet Lattam has not featured in recent success. Its current jockey, Ryan Sexton, has ridden it six times without a win. More concerning is Lattam's record at the level where it typically competes: it has won just 1 of 12 races in Class 2 events, suggesting the horse is fundamentally outclassed when asked to face top-tier opposition. Recent form has been unrewarding—placing once in its last six races but mostly finishing well down the field, with a gap of fourteen lengths separating its best and worst efforts. Still active and only seven years old, Lattam retains the physical years to deliver another win, but it will need that rare collision of soft ground and the right distance to happen again.
