The numbers suggest Lallygag is most dangerous in the biggest races. In Class 3 company — the bread and butter of racing — it has won just once from eight attempts, a modest 12 percent return. But climb up to Class 2, and the picture changes. Two victories in 2024, at Worcester in July and Newton Abbot in August, show the horse is capable at that level. The partnership with jockey Harry Cobden has been particularly fruitful: they have won four of their ten races together, a 40 percent win rate that far outpaces the horse's overall record.
Exeter emerges as Lallygag's happy hunting ground, with two wins from four races at that track — success at roughly half its attempts there suggests the course suits it well. Paul Nicholls, the trainer at Ditcheat, has had a prolific season and will be hoping to get Lallygag back to recapture the winning form of August 2024. The concern, inevitably, is the layoff. Nineteen months between races is a serious interruption, and horses don't always come back where they left off. That said, the most recent form before the absence was encouraging: wins in its last two Class 2 outings suggest Lallygag had reached a decent level of fitness. If Nicholls has got the horse spot-on coming back, it should be competitive.
