The bulk of her racing has come over longer trips, between a mile and six furlongs and two miles, where she has won 1 from 15 races. That 7% return in that distance range is actually where she shows her best form — it is a small figure, but it tells you she is more likely to be competitive when given enough time to get into her rhythm. Her most common level of competition is Class 6, the entry-level tier of British racing, where she has won 1 from 18 races. There is no shame in that — plenty of horses find their groove at this level, and it is where she is most regularly tested.

Recent form makes for sobering reading. Her last six finishes read 4-4-7-10-6-7, and she has not won since that August day at Musselburgh. Two fourth-place finishes suggest she is running consistently without quite getting there, while the heavier defeats in between hint at days when things simply did not go her way. She raced just one day ago, so she is clearly being kept busy. Jockey Cam Hardie has partnered her 11 times without a win between them — a combination that has yet to click, despite plenty of opportunity.

Adam Nicol's yard has been in decent form this season, sending out 24 winners, which speaks to a stable in good health. Lady Phoebe has not been a major contributor to that tally, but her Musselburgh win shows she can get the job done when the stars align. Whether she can do it again is the question her the yard — and anyone who has cheered her home — will be hoping to answer soon.
