His most recent victory came at Aintree on 10 April 2024, and he was back in action just days ago, which shows the horse is still firing and the yard is keeping him active. William Durkan, the trainer based in County Dublin, has done well by him — the yard has sent out 15 winners this season and clearly knows how to get Laafi to the line. Jockey Cieren Fallon has ridden him in five races and won twice, a 40 per cent win rate in the saddle that suggests they work well together. Where Laafi struggles is at the very top level: in Class 2 races, he has won just once from eight attempts, a 12 per cent win rate, indicating that when the competition is at its fiercest, he finds it hard to deliver. His recent form shows a second place just days ago, which is encouraging — the horse clearly remains competitive and sound. For a six-year-old still turning in placings, Laafi remains a horse worth following when conditions suit him, particularly on soft ground over his preferred distance.
