He also thrives on fast, dry ground, winning three of his eight races on such conditions — a 38% success rate that is genuinely impressive. Pair those two facts together, and you have a horse that needs a specific set of circumstances: Beverley on a dry day. When those align, King Sharja is a genuine prospect.

His current form tells a different story. He raced six times recently and has not won any of those races, finishing second and fifth twice each among them. The most recent outing was just a day ago. That losing streak does not mean he is finished — horses have ups and downs — but it does explain why his career win rate sits at just 11%. He does his best work in Class 6, the lowest-grade races, where he has won three of his 14 attempts (21%), yet he still struggles to find the winner's enclosure with any real frequency. Trainer Ruth Carr, based at Stillington in North Yorkshire, sees no reason why he will not pick up wins at that level again this season, particularly if the ground dries out and Beverley comes up on the fixture list. James Sullivan has ridden him most often, winning three of their 19 races together, a win rate of 16%. For a horse and jockey combination in the low grades, that is respectable. King Sharja will never make headlines, but he is the type of horse that keeps racing going — honest, consistent, and worth following when conditions are right.
