What makes Kerdos genuinely interesting is how much he improves on certain ground. On normal, standard conditions, he wins about two races in every five he runs on that surface—a win rate that towers above his overall record and suggests he has a clear preference. He is also a course specialist at Dundalk, where he has won two of his four races, including a victory there this week. The pattern is clear: put him on ground that suits him, at a track where he knows his way around, and he becomes a different proposition.

Recent form tells a mixed story. He won just two of his last six races, most recently at Dundalk, but before that he finished ninth on his comeback at Haydock after a bruised foot had interrupted his preparation. According to his trainer Stephen Thorne, based in County Dublin, that run left Kerdos fresher than ideal but the horse has since shown he is capable of better. Thorne, who trains from a yard that has sent out 24 winners this season, believes he can take a significant step forward. The challenge for the yard now is managing him carefully—finding the right track, the right ground, and the right race. When all three align, Kerdos proves he belongs in top company.
