Winning a Class 1 race at Ascot once is a serious achievement; winning the same prestigious occasion in consecutive years suggests this is a horse that rises to the moment rather than shrinking from it. Add a Class 1 victory at Kempton Park in September 2024 and another at Hamilton Park in July 2024, and you have a horse that has won four of the top races in Britain in under a year.

What makes that even more striking is the overall record at the top level. Kalpana has raced eight times in Class 1 company and won four of them — exactly half. Most horses spend their entire careers trying to win a single race at that standard. This one has essentially been treating it as a home ground.

The training base is Andrew Balding's yard at Kingsclere in Hampshire, one of the most productive operations in the country right now — 202 winners sent out this season alone. That context matters: Kalpana is not a lucky accident from a small stable, but a flagbearer for a team that clearly knows how to place and prepare a horse.

Recent form reads second, first, first, second, second, second across the last six races, with a win at Newbury as recently as five weeks ago. This is a horse that finished first or second in every single one of those runs — the kind of consistency that tells you the engine is always running, even when the result falls just short. Currently active and raced only yesterday, Kalpana is very much mid-campaign, and the record suggests there is every reason to expect it to add to that already impressive tally before the season is out.
