But the patience paid off. Just An Hour won three times as the form finally clicked, and Millman described him as winning "with a vengeance" — the kind of phrase a trainer doesn't reach for unless he genuinely means it. The most recent of those wins came at Windsor in July 2025, and while he hasn't won in his last six races, he's been consistently in the mix, finishing third or better in four of them. That's not a horse falling apart — that's a horse running well and waiting for the right moment.

The numbers tell you where he does his best work. On fast, dry ground he wins roughly 1 in every 5 races — 2 wins from 9 — compared to a career average of just under 1 in 8 overall (4 from 32). Over the middle-distance trips between a mile and three furlongs and a mile and four furlongs, that sharpens again: 3 wins from 15 races, or 1 in every 5. Get him the right ground and the right trip and he becomes a meaningfully better horse than his overall record suggests.

At six years old and racing just yesterday, Just An Hour is very much a live proposition. Millman's Devon yard doesn't produce winners at the top level — this is a horse operating at a decent but unspectacular class of race — but what Millman does well is place horses shrewdly and get the best out of what he has. Just An Hour is a case study in exactly that: a horse who needed time, got it, and rewarded the faith placed in him. Whether another win is around the corner depends largely on whether the ground dries out.
