The horse's spiritual home is Hamilton Park, where he landed back-to-back Class 1 or 2 wins in the summer of 2024 — first on 19 July, then again on 3 August — carrying big weight and doing it impressively. Goldie noted after one of those wins that the margin of victory was almost a problem: "The issue with William Buick is he's that good he wins by too far." That is a nice problem to have, and it speaks to a horse who, on fast, dry ground especially, is capable of turning up and embarrassing younger rivals. On that surface he has won 6 of 19 races — nearly 1 in 3 — which is a sharp number at any age.

His regular partner is Paul Mulrennan, and that combination has produced 7 wins from 17 races together — a win rate of 41%, or winning more than 2 in every 5 times they team up. That is a remarkable stat and suggests the horse has a jockey who genuinely understands him. There is also a small but compelling record at Carlisle, where he has won 2 of just 3 races — the kind of course record that makes you sit up.

He has not won in his last six races, and it is now two years since that last victory at Hamilton. Goldie has been candid that an injury interrupted things and cost him the first half of the current season — though crucially, it is not career-ending, and the horse is back and racing. The trainer's stated targets are the Ayr Gold Cup and possibly the Portland Handicap — two of the most competitive flat sprint races in Britain. Getting both in one season would be ambitious even for a horse ten years younger. But Jordan Electrics, trained at Goldie's yard in Uplawmoor which has sent out 88 winners this season, has a habit of defying expectations. His trainer's description of him — "a grand horse" — sounds simple, but from a man who knows him well, it carries real weight.
