That win was not a fluke either: Sedgefield is somewhere Ivane genuinely thrives, winning 2 of just 3 races he has run there. That is a remarkable record at any track, and it suggests there is something about the course — its shape, its ground, its pace — that suits him perfectly.

Away from Sedgefield, Ivane does his best work on normal ground conditions, where he has won 3 of 13 races (23%, or nearly 1 in every 4). He is also happiest at Class 5 level — the bread-and-butter tier of racing — where he has won 3 from 9, a 33% win rate that translates to winning roughly 1 in every 3 races at that grade. That is a genuinely strong return and marks him out as a competitive force when he races at the right level.

He is trained by James Owen, based at Newmarket, whose yard has been in outstanding form this season with 204 winners sent out. His most regular jockey is E Walsh, who has ridden him in 14 races for a single win together — a modest partnership in terms of numbers, but James Owen has spoken warmly about the horse's form through the summer, describing him as versatile enough to switch between flat races, hurdles and chases, and capable of handling different trip lengths. Owen's ideal scenario would be a nice staying race off a low weight — in plain terms, a longer race where Ivane is not asked to carry too much.
