The standout detail in Ivane's record is what he does at Sedgefield. He has won 2 of just 3 races there — that is an extraordinary hit rate for any horse at any track. Compare that to his overall record and the difference is stark. Sedgefield clearly suits him, and when he landed a top-level Class 2 race there in October 2025, he showed he is capable of stepping up to one of the better races in Britain and winning it. That is no small thing for a horse who typically operates at a lower level.

On normal ground, Ivane is a different animal. He has won 3 of 14 races in those conditions — roughly 1 in every 5 — compared to just 2 wins from the remaining 26 races on other surfaces. His trainer James Owen, who runs a remarkably productive yard in Newmarket that has sent out 205 winners this season alone, noted in October that the horse had been in great form through the summer and handles wet or muddy ground without any trouble either. Owen also flagged something genuinely interesting: Ivane can compete on the Flat, over hurdles, and over fences. That kind of versatility is rare and gives the team options that most horses simply don't offer.

The slightly frustrating part of the picture is the recent form. Ivane has not won in his last 6 races, with a second place being the best he has managed. His most regular jockey, E Walsh, has won just 1 of their 14 races together — about 1 in 14 — which is modest, though it may reflect the difficulty of the races rather than the partnership itself. Owen hinted that a staying race off a light weight could unlock the best of him next time out. Given what he did at Sedgefield last October, it would be unwise to write him off.
