The recent form makes that pattern even sharper. In the last six races, Insuspense has posted second place four times, including back-to-back seconds in its most recent outings. It raced just yesterday, so it is very much a horse in the middle of its story right now. Four seconds from six races is the kind of form that would have plenty of racing fans watching closely — the suspicion being that a win is overdue, and perhaps not far away.
The challenge is that Insuspense has yet to get off the mark even at Class 5 level, which is where most of its racing has come. It has run seven times at that level without winning — and while frequent placings show it is competitive, it has not yet been able to convert that into a result. The trainer, Oliver Cole, operates out of Whatcombe in Oxfordshire and has sent out eight winners already this season, so there is clearly ability in the yard. Whether Cole can find the right race to finally get Insuspense a win is the question worth following.
Some horses are place machines by nature — reliable, consistent, but just lacking that final burst when it matters most. Others are simply waiting for the stars to align: the right field, the right conditions, the right day. At 4 years old, Insuspense still has time to answer that question. Until then, it remains one of those horses that will keep drawing you back to check the results — because you always feel like today might be the day.
