Insanity

Those special moments have come at serious venues. Insanity won a top-tier Class 2 race at Ascot in August 2024 — one of the most prestigious tracks in Britain — and then backed it up with another Class 2 victory at Ayr in June 2025. That pairing matters. Plenty of horses scramble a win at a minor meeting and are never seen at that level again. Insanity has done it twice, at tracks that demand genuine quality. King himself suggested after the Ascot win that he thought the horse still had more to come, and that a return to a big occasion — even the Royal meeting at Ascot — was worth considering. That is not something trainers say lightly.

The horse performs best on normal, well-maintained ground, winning 3 of its 9 races in those conditions — a win rate of 33%, or roughly 1 in every 3 outings. That is significantly better than its overall record, which suggests ground matters. King has also hinted it might actually prefer a softer surface, which would open up a different set of opportunities if conditions cooperated.

Jockey Rossa Ryan has been the regular partner, and the combination clicks: 2 wins from 6 races together, winning 1 in every 3 rides. That kind of familiarity between horse and jockey is often underrated — some horses simply go better for a rider who knows their quirks.

The caveat is that Insanity has not won in its last six races, with recent form reading 2-12-2-2-3-11 — a series of placed finishes punctuated by the occasional bad day. The last victory came ten months ago. Alan King's yard has been in fine form this season, sending out 58 winners, so the ammunition is there. Whether Insanity can find that winning feeling again — ideally somewhere as glamorous as Ascot — is the question the team will be hoping to answer.
