What works in his favour is consistency on the surface he prefers. On normal ground conditions, Insanity wins roughly one race in every three (3 wins from 9 races) — a rate that sits well above his overall record. He is less convincing at the highest level, winning just 2 of 13 Class 2 races, but this is still respectable. His partnership with jockey Rossa Ryan shows promise: they have won twice from seven races together, a win rate of roughly 29 per cent, suggesting the pair click when conditions and opposition align.

Trainer Alan King, who runs a powerful Wiltshire yard that has sent out 57 winners this season alone, appears to have genuine regard for the horse's potential. After an earlier run on heavy ground, King noted that while Insanity handles all surfaces, he truly flourishes with some moisture in the ground — not the heavy going that can slow him, but normal conditions with a bit of cut to them. That observation fits the evidence: his three wins have all come on the ground he loves.

The puzzle now is why sixteen months have passed without another victory. Insanity is still racing — he ran just a day ago — but the absence of a win across six consecutive outings suggests he may have met a wall, or that opportunities at his level have dried up. He remains capable on his day, particularly on normal ground with Rossa Ryan in the saddle, but the old spark has dimmed.
