Imperial Guard had finished ninth, sixth, eighth, eighth, and fifth in the five races before that, so this was a performance that bucked a difficult run of results. Winning at a moment like that, when things have not been going your way, is the kind of thing that makes the yard — sorry, that makes the team — sit up and take notice. The first career win had come back on 27 March 2024 at Kempton Park, so there is now a chapter on either side of a long middle section.
