That York win last year felt like the moment — the trainer was bullish beforehand, the form has held up well, and for a brief window he looked like he might graduate to even bigger prizes. But horses like this can be maddening. He has the raw ingredients, he clearly prefers certain conditions, and when he is focused he can beat good company. The challenge now is whether he can string together the consistency to prove last summer was not a flash in the pan. At four years old, he is still young enough to have a future, but the clock is ticking.
