The most telling number in Hosanna Power's record is this: at the distances it seems to suit best — between a mile and three furlongs and a mile and four — it has run 11 times and won once. On paper, that 9% win rate sounds modest, but it does at least suggest these longer trips are where any chance of a repeat is most likely to come. Everywhere else, the story gets harder to tell. At Class 4 level, the mid-tier of British racing, Hosanna Power has run nine times and not won once.

The recent form makes for uncomfortable reading. The last six results, working back from the most recent, read 13th, 12th, 13th, 9th, 5th, 3rd — a sequence that shows a horse gradually drifting away from competitiveness rather than building towards anything. The third and fifth places at least suggest there were moments of promise in there, but the pattern since has been finishing well back in the field. Regular partner David Allan has ridden the horse five times without a win between them, which is not unusual given the overall record, but it does mean there is no obvious combination clicking into gear.

The yard itself has had a quiet season, sending out just one winner so far. Hosanna Power is currently active, having last raced 16 days ago, so the yard clearly believe there is still something to aim at. Whether that optimism is rewarded will likely depend on finding the right conditions at the right distance — and, given that Newbury has been the one place this horse has delivered, perhaps a return to familiar surroundings would not go amiss.
