Hidden Verse

Both wins have come at tracks in the west of England — Bath in May 2025, then Chepstow in July — which hints at a horse that travels well to those venues and possibly suits the way those courses ride. The Chepstow win is the one to focus on: it's the most recent, it's the more recent benchmark, and it came after a decent run of form. Since then, though, Hidden Verse has been off the track for around seven months, which is a long enough break to raise questions. Has the horse come back stronger, or will it need the run to shake off the rust?

The trainer combination of Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole, based at Elmbridge in Worcestershire, gives genuine cause for confidence. Their yard has sent out 50 winners this season — that's not a small operation grinding away at the edges, that's a yard in form and clearly knowing what it's doing. When a busy, successful training team decides to bring a horse back after a long absence, it's usually because they like what they've seen on the gallops at home.

The one small note of caution is that Hidden Verse has largely competed at the lower end of the racing ladder, winning 1 from 7 races at that level — about 1 in 7. That's a perfectly respectable record, but it does mean the horse hasn't yet been asked to prove itself in better company. At three, that's fine — this could simply be a horse that's still filling out and learning. If the yard has kept it ticking over through the winter with a plan in mind, the long break might end up looking like patience rather than a problem.
