What makes those numbers even more impressive is where those wins have come from. Ten of Hamish's 11 career victories have arrived in Class 1 races — the very highest tier of competition in Britain — and the horse has won 10 of 17 attempts at that level, a 59% win rate. That is not a horse punching above its weight on the odd good day. That is a horse that genuinely belongs in the top races and keeps proving it.

Chester deserves a special mention. Hamish has raced there three times and won all three. Racing people talk about "course specialists" — horses that seem to find something extra at a particular track — and Hamish is a textbook example. Chester is a notoriously tight, almost circular track that demands a very particular style of running, and this horse has mastered it completely.

The recent form tells the same story. Four wins from the last six races, including three consecutive Class 1 victories at Goodwood, Chester, and Newbury across 2025, show that age has done nothing to blunt the edge. Jockey Tom Marquand has been along for much of the ride, winning 7 of the 13 races they have contested together — a 54% win rate that suggests a genuine partnership. The trainer behind all of this is William Haggas, whose yard in Newmarket has sent out 170 winners this season alone, one of the most productive operations in British racing.

Hamish raced just yesterday and is clearly still a live force. For a ten-year-old to be winning at the highest level in the sport, race after race, year after year, is the kind of story that even a first-time racegoer can immediately appreciate. Some horses peak early and fade. Hamish keeps arriving.
