The road to becoming a Wolverhampton specialist was not without its bumps. Habrdi's first career win came at Brighton in October 2023, though it almost didn't happen at all. His previous trainer, Jane Chapple-Hyam, reported that in a sales race shortly before, he had been the first horse loaded into the stalls, waited so long for the others that he essentially fell asleep, and drifted out of contention before the race even started. The team turned him around quickly, he ran again at Brighton, and this time he got the job done. It's a reminder that in racing, luck — good and bad — is always part of the story.

Now with Ruth Carr, a yard that has sent out 56 winners this season and clearly knows how to keep horses ticking over, Habrdi is very much in active service — he raced just yesterday. His most recent six runs have produced a second, a third, and a fourth, so he has been placing regularly without getting back to the winner's enclosure. The bulk of his racing comes at Class 4 level, one of the mid-tiers of British racing, where he has won 2 of 12 races, or roughly 1 in every 6. Regular jockey James Sullivan has been aboard for 15 of his 29 races, winning once together — a modest partnership on paper, though clearly one the yard continues to trust.

The picture that emerges is of a horse who earns his keep without doing anything flashy — honest, consistent, and at Wolverhampton, genuinely dangerous. He hasn't won in his last six races, but the placings suggest the form is still there. It might just be a question of finding the right day at the right track.
