The record reads two wins and eight places from 18 races, a win rate of roughly 1 in every 9 outings (11%). Those wins came at Sandown Park in May 2023 and then Newbury three months later — and that second victory is now 35 months ago, which tells its own story. Since then, six races without a win, and recent form figures of 6-6-5-4-13-11 suggest a horse that is finding things harder as the competition stiffens. The most telling number is this: in seven attempts at Class 2 level — some of the best races in Britain — Greek Order has not won once.

What makes the profile more complicated, and more interesting, is the journey that brought him to Newmarket trainer Michael Bell's yard. Greek Order spent time racing in America, where things apparently didn't click — but on his final run over there, he was beaten only two lengths despite being forced to race six horses wide for much of the race, about as unhelpful a position as you can be in. Bell's son Nick spotted something worth retrieving, bought him at the Keeneland sales, and now the horse is being pointed at the Royal Hunt Cup, one of the most competitive flat races of the summer. He is currently rated 95 — the same mark he carried when finishing a close second in the Cambridgeshire as a three-year-old, so the raw ability was real once.

Ryan Moore, one of the best jockeys in the country, has partnered him five times and won once — a 20% win rate, or 1 from 5, which is respectable but not dominant. Greek Order shows his best form over a mile and three to four furlongs, winning 1 from 5 at those distances. He raced just yesterday, so the team are clearly keeping him busy. Whether this well-travelled six-year-old has one big performance left in him is the question — and that, more than anything, is why he is worth watching.
