Some horses simply click with a particular track, whether it is the shape of the turns, the surface, or something harder to explain, and Chelmsford clearly suits Giant in a way that other venues do not. The most recent win there came on 14 August 2025, which was just under a year ago, so the form is real and relatively recent.

His preferred trip also matters. At a mile and one or two furlongs, Giant wins 1 from 7 races — around 14%, or roughly 1 in every 7. That might not sound earth-shattering, but compared to his overall record it represents a clear sweet spot, and it is the kind of detail that separates an informed bet from a hopeful one.

The regular partnership with jockey Neil Callan has not paid off yet — zero wins from eight rides together — though that says as much about the nature of horse racing as anything else. Giant competes mostly at Class 4 level, which is the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, and has won just 1 of his 20 races at that level. He is not a star, but he is a consistent presence.

The last six runs — placings of third, second, fourth, second, and then a couple of forgettable finishes — show a horse that is knocking on the door without quite being able to open it. The next time the card shows Chelmsford at a mile-plus, Giant is worth a second look.
