Trainer P J F Murphy's yard at Castlecomer has had a modest season with only four winners sent out so far, and Free Solo, despite his age and large number of outings, remains one of the most experienced campaigners in the stable. Jockey Saffie Osborne has partnered him ten times but managed only a single victory together, suggesting the partnership, while active, hasn't quite clicked as either would have hoped. At nine years old and currently still racing, Free Solo remains active but appears to be running more out of habit than genuine expectation—a reliable soldier grinding away in the lower classes rather than the prospect that once seemed possible.
