On normal ground, the picture brightens considerably: two wins from five races means it hits the winning post roughly 40% of the time on those conditions — a major jump from its overall average. That's the kind of pattern that matters to a trainer like Jane Chapple-Hyam, who runs a steady yard at Dalham in Suffolk and has already sent out 24 winners this season.

But there's a sting in the recent form. Flag of St George hasn't won since Chepstow on 7 August 2025, more than a year ago. Its last six races read 7-8-6-7-8-5, which shows steady middle-order finishes but nothing remotely close to a winner's enclosure. The horse was out just a day ago, which means it is still active and still being backed for a race — a sign the yard believes another win is still possible. Whether that faith is justified depends partly on the ground and the class it runs in. On normal conditions, in a Class 4 race, Flag of St George might yet remind its the yard why it won in the first place. But 14 months is a long wait between wins, and recent form gives little cause for optimism.
