On normal ground, Flag Of St George becomes a different proposition entirely: he has won 2 of his last 5 races on such conditions, a 40% win rate that is dramatically better than his overall average. Similarly, when racing over 5 furlongs to 6½ furlongs—shorter, sharper distances—he has found the winner's enclosure in 1 of 5 attempts. More tellingly still, when stepped into Class 4 company (mid-range races), his record improves to 3 wins from 12 races, a 25% win rate that suggests he knows how to compete when the level suits him. This is a horse for whom the right conditions matter: take him to the right track, with the right ground, at the right distance, and his name belongs in serious calculations.

However, there is a concern that cannot be ignored. His last win came at Chepstow on 7 August 2025—twelve months ago. Since then, he has raced six times without success, finishing 13th, 2nd, 5th, 8th, 7th, and 6th most recently. That last run came just yesterday, which means he is still in active training with Jane Chapple-Hyam's yard in Suffolk, but the drought is real. Whether this is a temporary dip or the beginning of decline is the question any punter would have to answer before backing him. What we know for certain is that he was last genuinely competitive a year ago—and that is a long time in racing.
