Fire Flyer

The absence from the track makes the picture more complicated. Fire Flyer has not raced at all in the past 12 months, which is a significant layoff. When a horse returns after that long away, it often needs time to get sharp again. Whether that explains the recent form or whether Fire Flyer has simply lost its edge is impossible to say without seeing it run.

What is clear is that Fire Flyer has a clear preference for longer distances. Over races between 1m6f and 2m, the horse has won twice from three attempts — a 67% win rate that stands out sharply against its overall record. At Class 3 level, however, it struggles: just one win from six races at that grade. This suggests Fire Flyer might be out of its depth against top-class opposition. The horse is trained by Paul Nicholls at Ditcheat in Somerset, a yard with serious credentials — 95 winners this season — and is most often ridden by Harry Cobden, who has steered it to two wins from nine races together. Neither trainer nor jockey is the limiting factor here. Fire Flyer needs to prove it still belongs on a racetrack after such a long break.
