His finest stretch came over the winter, when he put together three wins and three seconds in quick succession — a run that kept trainer Robert Cowell's Newmarket yard in the winners' enclosure during the quieter months of the season. Cowell, who has sent out 24 winners this season alone, has spoken warmly about how Fidelius carried the flag for the team during that period. The last of those wins came at Lingfield Park in March 2026, which feels recent enough to take seriously.

The key to understanding Fidelius is the ground. On normal conditions he has won 6 of 14 races — that is 43%, which is extraordinary. Nearly half his races on a standard surface end in victory. Strip that away and the picture changes. He has not yet won on turf, though Cowell is clear-eyed about it: there have been good placed efforts, and he believes a turf win is coming. A run at Bath recently did not go to plan, and the trainer is simply waiting for Fidelius to bounce back.

He is also a course specialist at Chelmsford, where he opened his account on 23 May 2024 and has since won 2 of his 4 races there — a 50% record at a single venue that any trainer would be quietly delighted with. When jockey Marco Ghiani takes the ride, the numbers improve further still: two wins from just five races together, a 40% win rate that speaks to a genuine partnership. At Class 4 level — mid-tier, competitive racing — Fidelius has won 4 of 10 races, which tells you he belongs exactly where he is and knows how to win there.

He raced just yesterday, so fitness is not a question. The question is simply whether the turf is about to see what the all-weather already knows.
