Fan Mail

The horse's two victories tell the story. Both came on normal ground—the standard, everyday racing surface that suits many horses but not all. On that going, Fan Mail wins roughly once every seven races, a rate that climbs to nearly 30% when it runs at Class 5 level, where the opposition is weakest. That first win came at Newcastle in February 2025, and the second followed at Southwell last October—but that was a year ago now, and the horse has not found the winner's circle in its last six races. Recent form has been patchy: a second-place finish three runs back, a fourth just before that, but mostly mid-field efforts. Sean Kirrane, its most frequent jockey, has steered it in 11 races but managed just one win together, a rate of 9%, suggesting they have not yet found a consistently winning formula.

Fan Mail is trained by Tim Easterby at Great Habton in North Yorkshire, a yard that has sent out 128 winners this season and knows how to prepare horses to peak at the right moment. The question now is whether this horse can find that moment again. It runs best on normal ground at modest Class 5 level, and there is no reason to think those strengths have faded. What has changed is the timing—a year without a win is a long drought, and recent form offers nothing to suggest a breakthrough is imminent. For a horse with only two wins from 28 races, staying active and finding the right race remains the challenge.
