Over a full career of 16 races, Dosman has won twice and placed eight more times, which means it has finished in the top positions in 10 out of 16 races — a remarkably consistent record for a horse at this level. The win rate of 12% — roughly 1 in every 8 races — might sound modest on its own, but combined with all those placings, it paints the picture of a horse that rarely has a bad day.

The trickier part of the story is Class 2, which means some of the better races in Britain. Dosman has been sent out five times at that level and hasn't won any of them. That's not a disgrace — Class 2 fields are competitive and full of talented horses — but it's a clear pattern worth noting. The wins have come at a lower level, and the step up in class has so far been one bridge too far.

Jonny Peate is the jockey most associated with Dosman, having ridden the horse in 5 of its 16 races and winning once together — a win rate of 20%, or 1 in every 5 rides, which is actually stronger than Dosman's overall career average. That's a decent partnership, and it suggests the pair have some understanding between them. Trainer Oli Rix, based out of Newmarket — one of the most famous training centres in the country — has sent out one winner this season so far, and Dosman's Southwell victory six weeks ago may well be that win.

With a race just yesterday and form this strong, Dosman is clearly being kept busy at exactly the right moment. Whether Rix and the team can find a race at the right level to let this horse win again is the question worth watching.
