The recent run of form makes difficult reading too: finishing 10th, 6th, 5th, 11th, 6th, and 8th across its last six outings suggests a horse that is competing without quite finding its best. It raced just yesterday, so this is very much a horse in the thick of its campaign.

Where Delta Legend does show genuine quality is over a distance of one mile and one furlong to one mile and two furlongs — that slightly longer trip where stamina starts to matter. It has won 2 of its 8 races at those distances, which works out at 25%, or 1 in every 4. That is a meaningfully better return than its overall record and points clearly to where the horse is most dangerous.

The team behind Delta Legend is trained by Sarah-Jayne Davies, operating out of Leominster in Herefordshire. It is a smaller yard that has sent out five winners this season, so when Davies targets a race, it is worth taking seriously. The challenge is that Delta Legend has done most of its racing at Class 5 level — the more everyday end of the sport — and has drawn a blank in all 11 starts there. Both wins came when the horse was placed in slightly different circumstances, which is an interesting wrinkle for anyone following its next run closely. If Davies finds the right opportunity back at Lingfield, over its preferred trip, the form book says do not write it off entirely.
