Dancing Gemini

The career started at Newbury in August 2023 with a Class 2 win, and Dancing Gemini followed that up just weeks later with a Class 1 victory at Doncaster in September of the same year. Then came a quieter spell — 13 races without a win, including some ugly finishing positions — before the horse suddenly burst back to life in spring 2025. Back at Doncaster on 29 March and then at Sandown Park on 25 April, Dancing Gemini won back-to-back Class 1 races in the space of less than a month. That Sandown win was the Lockinge, one of the most prestigious mile races in the calendar, and Teal was quick to point out afterwards that the horse had been aimed at exactly this kind of race all along — the wet summer of 2024 had simply robbed them of the chance to show it.

That brings us to one of the more entertaining ongoing debates around this horse. Teal has pushed back firmly against the idea that Dancing Gemini only fires on soft, wet ground. The trainer's frustration after a narrow defeat at Newbury recently — when he had asked the clerk of the course to water the track and been refused — was clear. The horse went down by a neck on faster ground than it had ever encountered, and Teal called it "a Group 1 winner waiting to happen." The stats give him something to work with: Dancing Gemini has won 2 of 3 races on wet ground, yes, but it has also won on normal conditions and performed creditably on fast ground too.

At Doncaster specifically, the record reads 2 wins from 3 races, which for a horse competing at the highest level is a remarkable hit rate — winning two-thirds of the time at any course in top-flight racing is the kind of thing that makes opposing trainers wary. Teal's yard has sent out 22 winners already this season and is clearly in fine form. The trainer confirmed recently that Dancing Gemini is fit, has been working well, and the team is simply keeping the horse ticking over ahead of what comes next. After racing just yesterday, the next chapter is already being written.
