Ben Haslam trains out of Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire, one of the most respected training centres in the country, and his yard has been in fine form this season with 35 winners already on the board. That is a yard operating with confidence, and it suggests Dalamara is in good hands as it continues to develop. Haslam will know this horse well by now — eight races in gives a trainer a clear picture of what they are working with — and the fact that Dalamara raced just yesterday tells you the team believes there is more to come.
The Newcastle win came seven months ago, so there is a question of whether Dalamara can rediscover that level and do it more often. But for a three-year-old still learning the game, one career win is a foundation, not a ceiling.
