That dry spell is beginning to look worrying for a horse of his age, though his most recent outing just a day ago — a thirteenth-place finish — at least shows he is still racing and still trying.

Sean Kirrane has been his most frequent partner, and the numbers tell a better story with him in the saddle: four wins from seventeen races together, a 24% rate that beats his overall average and suggests the two of them have chemistry. Trained by David Thompson at Bolam in County Durham, Cusack operates in a modest yard that has sent out nine winners this season.
