Winning 2 from 10 at that level (20%, or 1 in every 5) sounds modest until you understand how competitive those races are. The fact that Cover Up keeps showing up and keeps winning them is the point.

The most recent chapter is a win at The Curragh just this week, which confirms the horse is very much at the top of its game right now. Recent form reading 1-1 from the last six runs, with a third in between, suggests a horse coming into something close to its best.

Much of that consistency is down to the partnership with jockey William Buick, one of the most respected riders in the sport. Together they have won 5 from 13 races — a win rate of 38%, or nearly 2 in every 5 — which is the kind of number that suggests genuine chemistry rather than coincidence. Behind the scenes, the Simon and Ed Crisford yard in Newmarket has had a remarkable season, sending out 78 winners, and Cover Up is clearly one of their flagship performers.

That is not a fluke; it suggests the horse travels well and rises to big international occasions. On normal ground the record reads 2 wins from just 3 attempts, a 67% win rate that is almost absurdly good. Still only six years old and racing just yesterday, Cover Up looks like a horse with more to give.
