She keeps finding herself in the frame — third here, third there — without quite getting her nose over the line. He believes she has genuine ability, but something keeps going wrong at the critical moment — trouble in running, things not quite falling her way. That first-place finish — her Great Yarmouth victory — sits right in the middle of it, surrounded by runs where she has beaten very few horses or finished strongly without winning.
