Caprelo

The most interesting thing about Caprelo is how sharply his form changes depending on the ground. On wet or muddy ground, he is genuinely useful: three wins from nine races (a 33% win rate) that suggests he finds his rhythm when the turf is soft underfoot. Move him to fast, dry ground and he becomes a different proposition entirely. This is not uncommon in racing, but it is a clear preference worth remembering, and his trainer Hughie Morrison, who runs the yard at East Ilsley in Berkshire, knows exactly how to read it.

Kempton Park is Caprelo's spiritual home. He has won three of his ten races there—a 30% win rate at a single track, which is genuinely remarkable. His last victory came there on 6 September 2024, over a year ago, but he keeps coming back to the track, and last time out he was sent off as the favourite at Kempton only to finish fifth. Morrison has described the horse as having "the ability" but noted a worrying streak of reluctance, a tendency to shirk the effort when it matters most. The trainer was frank about frustration but also philosophical: some bloodlines, he suggested, are simply harder to unlock than others. At 1m3f to 1m4f, distances that suit Caprelo's running style, he has won one from four races. It is not explosive form, but it is something to build on. He remains actively racing and still has the chance to add to his three wins.
