That Doncaster victory was the highlight for both of them, though Bethell noted afterwards that if she'd had a bit more to aim at over the final stretch, she might have been even more impressive.

She has won 1 of 5 races at that trip — a 20% win rate, or 1 in every 5 — which is a meaningful number for a horse that wins just 1 in 12 overall. Get the distance right and you're looking at a different animal. Her record at Class 2 level tells the same story: 1 win from 4 races at that level, or 25%, which means she is actually more competitive at the top end than her career record implies.

The recent form is harder to spin. Her last six runs read 9-5-4-5-6-2, and that win at Doncaster now sits nearly two years in the past. She raced just yesterday, which means she is firmly in training and active — the question is whether Bethell can find the right race to unlock that form again. A mile and a half at a track that suits her, in a Class 2 field, is the combination that produced her finest hour. It would not take much for it to happen again.
