Brighton Boy

Chester is a uniquely peculiar racecourse — tight, left-handed, barely wider than a country lane in places — and most horses either take to it or they don't. Brighton Boy takes to it emphatically. Two wins from just three races there (67%) makes him about as close to a course specialist as you will find at this level. His first career win came at Chester on 12 July 2024, and he returned to score there again on 20 September 2025. When Brighton Boy loads up at Chester, something clicks.

There is a pattern to his preferences beyond just the track. On wet or muddy ground he has won 2 of his 5 races — a 40% win rate that puts him in a different league compared to his overall figures. Combine Chester with soft conditions and you are looking at a horse operating squarely in its comfort zone. The challenge is that most of his career — seven of his fourteen races — has come in Class 2 company, which means some of the better races in Britain, and there he has yet to win. Zero from seven. That gap between what he can do and what the top level demands of him is the central tension in his story.

His recent form makes for mixed reading: a win sandwiched between some modest finishes, including a couple of double-figure placings. He raced just one day ago, so he is very much in the thick of his campaign. The trick is getting him back there, in the right conditions, before his rivals catch on entirely.
