Boston Run

The recent run of form makes for tough reading. In its last six races the best finish has been sixth, with an eleventh thrown in for good measure — a sequence that suggests something isn't quite clicking at the moment. Racing just yesterday, Boston Run is clearly being kept busy, which is often a sign that the yard believe a race can be won if the right opportunity comes along.

That opportunity has most often been sought at Class 5 level, which is the lower end of the British racing ladder — the kind of race designed to give horses exactly like Boston Run a chance. And yet from six attempts at that level, the record is still zero wins from six, or 0%. That's a difficult stat to look past, though it's worth noting that placing four times overall shows this isn't a horse that simply trails in at the back of the field every week.

Simon Dow, who trains Boston Run out of Epsom in Surrey, has had 14 winners on the board this season, so the yard is clearly capable of getting horses to win. The question is whether Boston Run can be the next one to add to that tally. Epsom, of course, is one of British racing's most famous addresses — home of the Derby — and while Boston Run isn't operating at anything close to that level, being trained there carries a certain pedigree of horsemanship. Whether Dow can find the right race to unlock this particular horse remains the story worth watching.
