Auld Toon Loon

Trained by Tom Dascombe at Upper Lambourn — a yard that has sent out 22 winners already this season, which is a serious level of output — the seven-year-old has carved out a clear identity. It operates best over a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs, a searching distance that rewards stamina and intelligence, and at that trip it has won 4 of its 16 races, a 25% win rate that would turn plenty of trainers green with envy. Most of its racing has come at Class 4 level, where it has won 3 of 9, meaning it wins roughly 1 in every 3 races at that grade — a solid performer at its natural level.

The highlight of the CV, though, is that Class 2 win at Windsor on 14 August 2025. Stepping up into one of the better races in Britain and winning is precisely what separates a decent horse from one with genuine quality, and Auld Toon Loon delivered when it mattered. It raced just yesterday, which tells you this is a horse very much in the thick of a campaign right now.

The partnership with jockey Pierre-Louis Jamin is interesting — they have raced together six times and won once, a rate of 1 in 6, which isn't spectacular but suggests a familiarity that could yet produce more. The recent form makes for encouraging reading too: a win, a third, and an eighth from the last three runs shows a horse that came back to form sharply before that Windsor success, even if a couple of runs in the sequence were forgettable. When Auld Toon Loon clicks, it clearly clicks properly.
