Atlantis Blue

What makes Atlantis Blue worth watching is her record in lower-level races and, more importantly, her partnership with jockey Jim Crowley. When the two are together, something clicks: they have won three of six races, a 50% win rate that stands out sharply against her overall record of just three wins from 30 races. Crowley has found something in her, a way of handling a horse that trainer George Baker describes as having the key to her. That Lingfield win last summer came with Crowley in the saddle on softened ground — conditions the mare plainly prefers. Baker has been vocal about this preference, noting that he ran her on fast ground at Sandown where she struggled, but she transforms on rain-affected going. She has placed in races at Goodwood, including when she was unlucky enough to bang her head leaving the stalls at her next appearance there, suggesting the track suits her despite the setbacks.

At Class 5 level, where most of her races happen, she wins roughly one in every five or six attempts. Those are not spectacular numbers, but they place her as a genuine winning prospect in her bracket — the sort of horse the yard keep running because she shows up and competes. At seven years old, with the right ground and the right rider, she remains active and capable. The question now is whether that second wind can translate into another period where she finds the winner's circle more regularly.
