Finlay Bassett

Bassett recorded his first ride in March 2026, which means he is about as new to professional race riding as it gets. With just a single race under his belt and no winners yet, there is almost nothing to analyse statistically — and that is entirely normal. Most jockeys spend their early months simply getting experience, learning how races unfold at pace, and building relationships with trainers willing to give them a chance on a horse. That first ride is the hardest one to get, and Bassett has it behind him.

It is far too early to draw any conclusions about what kind of jockey he might become. The only honest thing to say is that he has started — and in a sport where getting that first opportunity can take years of work in the yard and on the gallops, that counts for something.
