Zu Run

The level Zu Run typically operates at is Class 5, one of the lower tiers of British racing where the competition is within reach. That is a respectable rate and suggests the yard have a reasonable read on where this horse belongs. Mark Loughnane trains out of Rock Farm in Worcestershire, and his operation has been in decent form this season with 25 winners sent out — so there is genuine competence behind the horse, even if Zu Run itself is going through a lean spell.

That lean spell is the most pressing storyline right now. The last win came at Brighton on 8th May 2025 — over 14 months ago — and since then Zu Run has gone six races without a victory. One interesting subplot is the partnership with Billy Loughnane — almost certainly a family connection given the shared surname — who has ridden Zu Run five times without a win between them. Sometimes a jockey-horse combination just does not click, even when everything else around it does. Whether a change of rider might unlock something different is a question worth watching. For now, Zu Run is a horse that keeps turning up, competes honestly at its level, and is probably one good day away from ending a wait that has gone on long enough.
