Trained by Adrian McGuinness at Lusk in County Dublin, Zabriskie Point runs best over five to six and a half furlongs, where he has won once from five attempts—a respectable 20 percent win rate at that distance. The problem is that he has not yet won at the higher levels. In four attempts at Class 2 races, the top tier of British racing, he has never finished first. This gap between his optimal trip and his ceiling in class competition hints at a horse who performs well against ordinary rivals but struggles when the quality rises. His trainer has suggested he prefers faster, drier ground; his last victory came on testing, muddy conditions, and the jockey noted afterward that Zabriskie Point "put up with it rather than relished it"—a tactful way of saying the heavy ground was against him.

At five years old and still racing, he remains active. His recent form shows no wins in his last six outings, with a pattern of minor placings and mid-field finishes that suggests a horse still competitive but no longer capable of winning at the level he now faces. McGuinness's yard has been prolific this season, sending out 45 winners, so the problem is not a struggling stable but a horse who has simply plateaued. Zabriskie Point had his moment—two wins in his early career—but that window has closed.
