The recent form tells a mixed story. A fourth-place finish two runs ago hinted at progress, but that was sandwiched between a seventh and a sixth, and the latest outing — just yesterday — resulted in a tenth. That is not the kind of trajectory that inspires confidence. Jockey Cam Hardie has partnered Yurinov five times without a win between them, though to be fair, the horse has not won for anyone else either.
Yurinov typically lines up in Class 6 races, the lowest tier of flat racing in Britain. These are races designed specifically to give horses like Yurinov — those that struggle to win elsewhere — a realistic chance of getting their head in front. And yet, across 11 races at that level, the win column remains empty. That is a striking statistic. Class 6 is essentially the last port of call, and finding a way to win even there has so far proved elusive.
The yard behind Yurinov is Philip Kirby's operation in East Appleton, North Yorkshire, which has been in good form this season with 36 winners sent out. That suggests the training team is doing plenty right — Yurinov simply may not have the raw ability to match some of its stablemates. A horse can be well-trained, well-ridden, and well-cared for and still find winning beyond it. Racing can be a brutally honest sport in that regard. The team will be hoping that changes soon.
