Yaaser

The key to understanding Yaaser is knowing where and how he likes to race. On normal ground he has won 6 from 27 — roughly 1 in every 4-and-a-half races — which tells you he is at his best when conditions are neither too wet nor too dry. At Musselburgh specifically, he has won 3 times from 12 visits, which makes him something of a track specialist. That is not a fluke — certain horses simply suit the shape and rhythm of a particular track, and Musselburgh seems to unlock something in him. Goldie has spoken about how Yaaser rewards patience: hold him up for as long as you dare, keep him off the pace, and he arrives late with a genuine turn of foot. Play him too early and you lose him.

His most productive partnership has been with jockey Paul Mulrennan, who has ridden him to 8 of his 10 wins from 34 races together — a win rate of 24%, or roughly 1 in every 4 rides. That is a meaningful number. When those two click, things tend to go right. Seven furlongs on normal ground, strong pace to chase down — that is the recipe the yard has identified as his sweet spot, though Goldie has noted he handled a stiff mile at Carlisle well enough to suggest he is not without stamina either.

His last win came at Newcastle in December 2025, and his recent runs — five finishes of 5th or worse in a row — suggest he is searching for his best form again. He raced just yesterday, so he is very much still in training and active. At 8 years old he is an experienced campaigner rather than a young horse on the rise, but the trainer's view is straightforward: when Yaaser is right, he is very good. The task now is finding conditions that remind him of that.
