Jockey Dale Swift, who rides him regularly, once said the horse has a habit of "breaking half a stride too slowly" but finds another gear when he needs it, lying in wait before striking. At Ripon, Swift explained that Wreck It Ryley "was there when I needed him" after he got the gap to move through, suggesting a horse that responds to being ridden with purpose. Brown's yard is ticking along this season with ten winners, and although Wreck It Ryley has not won in his last six races, Brown clearly still holds him in regard — that lack of a win in recent months looks like dip rather than the end of the story.
