The first win came at Ripon in May 2024, and it took a while before the second arrived. But that second win landed at Doncaster just last week, and the timing matters — Doncaster is one of the most competitive venues in the north of England, so winning there carries genuine weight. Altogether Woodleigh has won 4 races and placed in 12 more from 35 starts, a win rate of around 11%, or roughly 1 in every 9 races. That is not a headline number, but it understates what the horse is capable of in the right conditions.

Those conditions are specific, and that specificity is actually encouraging. On slightly soft, wet ground, Woodleigh wins 2 races from every 10 — that is a 20% win rate, nearly double its overall figure. At a mile and three to four furlongs, it wins half its races: 2 from 4. And at Redcar, it has won 2 of only 3 visits. That is not a coincidence — it is a horse that has figured out exactly where and when it wants to perform, and when those boxes are ticked, it becomes a very different proposition.

Regular jockey Zak Wheatley has ridden Woodleigh 14 times for 1 win together, a return of 7%, which on its own does not look impressive. But the partnership is clearly still building, and Fell's yard has sent out 25 winners already this season — so the operation around this horse is in good health. A five-year-old that just won last week, loves wet ground, and dominates at Redcar is one to keep an eye on every time the weather turns and the entries go up.
