Viper

The recent form tells a mixed story. Last time out, just a day ago, Viper finished seven lengths back — a disappointing run. Before that came a second-place finish, and a third, so there have been moments where the horse got close. Over the last six races, though, two wins and three places from six outings is hardly a convincing pattern. Viper has shown up to the line regularly enough — three placings is respectable — but that 17% win rate reflects a horse that is more consistent than brilliant.

What matters now is whether Ellison can find the right race to spark another victory. The Newcastle win proved Viper can do it. The yard itself is firing, with 43 winners sent out this season, which suggests good form and plenty of chances coming. For a three-year-old still learning, Viper has the ability to place regularly and win at the right moment — if the distance suits and the horse finds its form again soon.
