Winning 5 from 44 races at that level, roughly 1 in every 9, is the kind of record that says this horse belongs in those fields, even if it doesn't always win them. Add 21 placed finishes to the 8 wins and you have a horse that has finished in the top three in nearly half its 58 races. It earns its keep week in, week out.

The Fahey yard has been in good form this season — 23 winners and counting — and Vintage Clarets has done its bit. The horse won a Class 2 at Ascot in August 2025, one of the most prestigious tracks in the country, which is no small thing. But arguably the most intriguing part of its record is what happens at Catterick Bridge, a tight, undulating track in North Yorkshire. Vintage Clarets has won there twice from just 5 visits — including consecutive October wins in 2023 and 2024 — making it one of those horses that simply seems to love the place. Some horses click with a particular track's layout and rhythm in a way that's hard to explain but impossible to ignore.

Regular jockey Oisin Orr has been aboard for 17 of those races, winning twice together — a win rate of around 1 in 8 — and the partnership clearly has familiarity on its side. The recent form shows a third and a second in the last two outings, suggesting Vintage Clarets is in decent nick right now, having raced as recently as yesterday. The horse has hit a sequence without a win since Ascot last August, but given the level it competes at and the consistency it has shown across a long career, it would be unwise to count it out.
