Twilight Guest

Brighton is the key. On that tight, undulating track on the Sussex coast, Twilight Guest has won twice from just seven visits — a win rate of around 1 in every 3.5 races. For context, the overall career win rate is 1 in 13. That gap tells you everything: this is a horse that the track genuinely suits, whether it is the camber, the turning nature of the course, or something else entirely. When Margarson's team load Twilight Guest onto the horsebox bound for Brighton, they have real reason for optimism.

The distance sweet spot is equally telling. At a mile and one furlong to a mile and two furlongs, Twilight Guest has won 2 of its 15 races — roughly 1 in every 7 or 8 — which is meaningfully better than its record at other trips. Put the right track and the right distance together and you have the recipe for this horse at its best. Both career wins at Brighton came in that range, which is no coincidence.

The partnership with jockey Tom Queally, though, is harder to warm to. Ten rides together and no wins at all. That is not necessarily anybody's fault — horses and jockeys sometimes simply do not click — but it is a stat worth noting given how regularly they are paired. The yard has been in decent form this season with 11 winners, so the horses are clearly running well enough; Twilight Guest just has not been among them lately.

The most recent win came at Pontefract in June 2025, and the six races since have brought a string of minor placings rather than victories. At Class 6 — the entry level of British racing — Twilight Guest has won 3 of 27 races, or roughly 1 in 9. It raced just yesterday, so the yard are keeping this horse busy. The question is whether another trip to Brighton, at the right distance, might finally end the wait.
