Trojan Sun

The recent pattern tells a story of a horse searching for another winning opportunity. It has not won in its last six races, though two of those came as top-three finishes in tough spots at Chester and Ayr. Its last victory came at Carlisle in June, four months ago. Goldie, speaking to Racing TV after the Musselburgh win, observed that Trojan Sun "hasn't got a lot of gears and is better suited being up there in front," suggesting the trainer understands the horse's limitations — it needs to lead or be close to the pace, not come from behind. The yard is planning another couple of runs this autumn, specifically targeting softer ground before winter, which aligns with the data: the horse wins one in four on normal conditions but struggles when tracks dry out or become heavy. At Class 5 level, where it most often competes, it has won three of fifteen races (20%), a respectable enough record for that grade. Amie Waugh is its regular jockey but has won just once from eight rides together. Trojan Sun is a functional, honest sort — not a star, but a horse that knows exactly what it needs to get the job done.
