Top Gun Tina

Her recent form tells a story of a horse treading water. In her last six outings, she has managed a couple of fourth and fifth-place finishes but nothing better. With Sean Kirrane in the saddle for her last seven races, she has not found the winner's enclosure once. Trainer David Thompson, based near Durham, sends out a competitive yard—nine winners this season—but Top Gun Tina has not been among them. She typically races at Class 6 level, the lower tiers of the sport, where she has won just once from 26 races. That tells you she is very much in the right company, competing against horses of similar ability, yet she still struggles to find a way past the post. She raced just a day ago, so she remains an active part of the yard's routine, though at 34 races with one victory in 14 months, it is hard to imagine she will find her way into the winner's circle again anytime soon.
